Someone asked me, how do I know I'm in love?
My life has been blessed for 31 years with the same woman. I wake up to her every morning and there's only been maybe 7 nights in those years that I haven't (due to travel, our wedding night, following the beliefs of an old superstition, and/or a hospital stay when my appendix was removed.)
All of those days, months, years, and mornings, whether we were smoking cigarettes together, sharing a morning cup of coffee, or a meal, I saw the exact same woman that I fell in love with when we were younger and first met. I saw her soul, the energy she had, the devotion to our marriage and children. The strength that she had as an independent, loving, caring, intelligent being who never seemed to work hard at maintaining those skills.
We have experienced heartache, loss, and have created many great memories. Recanting adventures of our past often brings tears and laughter into our daily conversations. We have forged into this full time RV life, and with all of that, I still see her like I always have.
How do I know I'm still in love?
Because love should never change the perspective you have of your partner, our love has never faltered. Love isn't forced and isn't always blatant and in the face (unless featured in a horror story, ha!). Sometimes love is done in small gestures that reinforce the bond shared. We have always been on the same page, we never argue about material things, and always kiss before saying goodnight or goodbye.
We've lived, learned, cried and laughed together, and still we grow day to day. The constant in our life is the love we share for our family, and the connections we make on our adventures on the road. Our ability to take on challenges that come our way and to still be positive provides relief, and assurance that becomes nourishment and growth. And that, my friend, is how I know that I’m still in love. Thanks for reading.
